Event Date: March 6 & 7, 2014, UCCP Church, Davao City (Philippines)

You are cordially invited to a national gathering exploring the issues, thinking and practices of doing Christology in the Philippines. We are looking for biblical scholars, theologians, pastors, anthropologists, missionaries, practitioners, students, etc., that critically engage within their ministry context in order to further describe Filipino Christologies. As Jesus asked his disciples, he is also asking Filipinos, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). The specific interests are making explicit and then evaluating the hermeneutical assumptions and principles that Filipinos use as they do Christology. We are looking for a wide range of voices (e.g. tribal, urban, rural, etc.) to engage with the issues, challenges and insights they are encountering as they teach about Christ in culturally relevant ways. What are some unique features of a Filipino understanding of Christ as revealed in the Scripture? The objective of this event is to articulate Christologies that will enable the church in the Philippines to be an agent of genuine transformation of Filipino culture and society. Useful and practical resources based on these Christologies can provide the church with knowledge and methodology that can be used to address different identified needs.
